A dangerously discarded nine centimetre blade was found yesterday outside a library.
Havering Safer Transport PCSOs were conducting weapon sweeps throughout the borough as part of Operation Sceptre 8 when the knife was discovered.
Officers were approached by a Havering Council employee who said he had found a knife that morning at Rainham Library, Celtic Farm Road, Rainham, secreted between a window sill and brickwork.
A police spokesman said: “At this time it is unknown whether it [the knife] is involved in any crimes, or has any viable forensic evidence.”
Operation Sceptre is an anti-knife operation that has been running across the capital since July 2015.
Under the initiative, police have carried out more than 4,729 weapon sweeps across London.
The spokesman continued: “There is a knife bin outside of the police station in Main Road, Romford, for people to safely dispose of any knives.”
