Saint Francis Hospice will celebrate its biggest ever Brentwood Half Marathon running team next weekend.

More than 70 people have signed up to take part in the event for them and the team, dressed in the Romford hospice’s orange tops, hopes to raise £25,000 on Sunday, March 23.

Mike Geggus is running his first half marathon in memory of his grandfather Ralph Secker, from Romford, who was cared for by Saint Francis Hospice.

He said: “The hospice provided the care necessary for my grandfather to be as comfortable as possible in his final months.”

Hospice events manager Lauren Josman said: “We are thrilled so many people are getting behind Saint Francis Hospice this year.”

She asked that anyone who has their own place in the event and is not raising money for charity considers getting sponsorship for the hospice.
