A Romford resident was delighted to have two life-sized Laurel and Hardy statues returned to her after they were stolen three years ago.
The statues of the comedy duo were returned to Lesley Haylett and her partner Peter Elliott on Thursday, July 12 after they were stolen from outside their home in Noak Hill, Romford on October 21, 2015.
Lesley told the Recorder: “Two young boys knocked on our door about half past nine and said that they had something in the back of our van that belonged to us.
“They were clearing out a field in Essex and they found [the statues] at the bottom of the field with some other rubbish.
“We don’t know where they have been for the past three years, we’re just grateful that they’re finally back.”
Laurel and Hardy had been stationed outside their bungalow for more than 21 years and had disappeared twice before.
After they were removed Lesley had them chained to the ground and she was surprised that whoever had stole them must have come prepared with bolt cutters.
