Some of the borough’s housing officers hit the small screen this week featuring on BBC One’s new series of The Housing Enforcers.

On the show, consumer champion Matt Allwright travels around Britain searching out bad landlords, tackles problem properties and deals with nightmare neighbours.

This week, he joined Havering Council’s housing officers on the front line.

Cabinet member for housing, Cllr Damian White said: “The council’s team dedicated to tackling tenancy fraud, that deprives local residents of the chance of getting the council housing they need, has been strengthened with the hiring of additional fraud investigators.”

The team’s work has led to the return of 31 properties since October 2015 and has prevented 18 potentially fraudulent applications under the Right to Buy legislation.

Officers in action featured on episodes on Monday and Wednesday.

The team will again feature in an episode on Friday at 9.15am and seven subsequent shows.
