A pioneering product for children with autism was demonstrated at a Harold Hill special needs school this week.

Inventor Andy Brand, of Rainham-based Squease, brought along a special jacket which helps autistic people cope with anxiety.

The jacket is designed to help autism sufferers who feel the need to have tight bodily pressure, like an intense hug.

The presentation at Dycorts School, Settle Road, Harold Hill took place on Monday.

Deputy headteacher Jonathan Budd said: “It is something we’ve been looking for, we have a lot of children with autism who have sensory needs or impairments and the jacket certainly looks like it will fulfil some of those needs.

“It was probably less intrusive than I imagined, it fits really well.”
