Grass fire tears through rear of Ardleigh Green home

Firefighters battled a blaze at an Ardleigh Green home last night (July 17).

Firefighters were called to reports of grass alight in the rear garden of a property on Northumberland Avenue at 9.34pm yesterday.

Four fire engines attended from stations including Hornchurch, Harold Hill and Ilford.

Around 20 firefighters brought the fire under control within an hour.

The fire tore through the patio decking, back wall and rear windows of the home.

There are no reports of any injuries as the occupants were not at home when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical.
