Hornchurch-based Age Concern Havering held a summer party to say “thank you” to the unpaid workers who help it keep going.

More than 70 dedicated volunteers were at the event, in Hopwa House, at which prizes were dished out and guests enjoyed music from local singer Martin Philips.

Sainsbury’s Elm Park, which has chosen Age Concern Havering as its charity of the year, donated a hamper, which was used as a raffle prize and won by Penka Tyutyokova.

Karen Luckett, who has been volunteering at the Age Concern office since May, was among those at the event.

“I’d recommend becoming a volunteer to anyone,” said Karen, 41.

“I was looking for work and found it very difficult. I thought in the interim I’d like to put my experience to good use.

“I really enjoy meeting new people and volunteers across the charity.”
