Wennington firefighters were called after a plumber’s van caught fire on the A13 at Rainham.

The fire crew, along with an engine from Dagenham, spent 50 minutes extinguishing the blaze on the westbound carriageway, which was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault shortly after 4pm today (Monday).

The van was completely destroyed after its fuel supply and the solvents it was carrying spilt across the road and caught light.

The lane was closed as the crews brought the fire under control, near the road’s junction with Marsh Way. The van driver escaped unharmed.
