THE A12 was closed for five hours yesterday (Thursday October 8) following a smash between a car and motorbike.

The biker, a man riding an Aprilla, collided with a Renault Clio on the Essex-bound carriageway between the Esso Garage and Maylands Golf Course at around 1.50pm.

He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, in east London, where his injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.

The driver of the Clio was unhurt.

All roads were cleared by 7.15pm.
