Who needs Winter Wonderland when you can take your children along to Straight Road in Harold Hill this Christmas to see £4,000 worth of lights?

Resident Andrew Yeoman’s annual illuminations are being done in the name of charity this year, after he tragically lost his daughter to cot death.

Darcey was just four-months-old when she died in July, and Andrew decided to “go even bigger” this year with his festive display, complete with a wishing-well made by his father-in-law.

“I didn’t know he was making it,” explained Andrew. “I went out for a few hours and came back and this wishing well was there.

“Now people can come up and see the lights, and drop donations in the wishing well outside the front.”

All proceeds will go to the Lullaby Trust, who support bereaved families dealing with the sudden death of an infant.

Ian switched the bright lights on late on Sunday night, and had people stopping their cars to enjoy the display soon after.

“It doesn’t bother me really, people stopping. A couple come and knock on the door but most just stop outisde.”

Kind-hearted onlookers have already dropped more than £50 into the wishing well, adding to the £600 Andrew has raised through other fundraisers this year.

The North Wealds Trust Golf Club worker is planning to host a fun day at the golf course next year to raise more money.
