A Brentwood secondary school says a major redevelopment project "reflects the world-class education" it provides.

Anglo European School in Ingatestone is preparing to decant classrooms into temporary buildings prior to the demolition of five existing buildings.

It also wants to build a new three-storey school building as well as a new car parking area, amphitheatre and multi-use games area.

The final modular building for this phase arrived on September 4, completing an programme of work that saw 12 modules relocated and a further 86 modules delivered and installed.

This includes 60 modules forming the teaching block, eight modules for the administration block, two modules for special educational needs provision, and 16 modules providing office and welfare facilities for Kier Construction, who are managing this build.

The secondary school serves around 1,500 pupils aged 11 to 18, drawing students from a wide catchment area thanks to its internationally focused curriculum.

The school was the first state school to adopt the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the IBCP and is a lead school nationally for languages.

Jody Gee, headteacher at Anglo European School, said: “The new school design reflects the international, distinctive and world-class education provided on this site and is well deserved by the students, staff and governors who have been at the forefront of our creative thinking behind three years of planning and design.

“The school has worked closely with the Department for Education and its project partners to develop long-term plans for the site, as part of the government’s schools rebuilding programme.

"The redevelopment will create an education and community resource for the local community and supporting the school’s students and staff with new facilities designed for the future.

Chris Lilley, regional director of Kier Construction Eastern & Midlands, added: “The new building has been designed to reflect Anglo European School’s distinctive international ethos and specialisms, while supporting the school’s vision to provide a high-quality learning environment aligned with its net zero carbon in operation ambitions.”
