Hornchurch High Street's newest "fine dining" restaurant with Michelin Star ambitions has revealed the exact date it will open to diners.

Chef Jomon's #Veedu, at 197-201 High Street, will open its doors for the first time on October 21 and will welcome its first diners from 5pm.

Yesterday (October 15), the Recorder was told that the restaurant was hoping to be open from the weekend of October 24 and 25 onwards but Chef Jomon has since confirmed that he will open the doors on October 21.

The 41-year-old is opening his first restaurant after around 20 years of hospitality experience as a chef and restaurant consultant.

Speaking exclusively to the Recorder in September, Chef Jomon said: "We are from Kerala and we are into hospitality - we always say our visitors and guests should be treated like gods.

"I’m replicating an old typical home in Kerala and bringing it to Hornchurch."

The restaurant will serve food inspired by Chef Jomon's culinary journey to date, beginning when he was working in chicken shops as child in his home district Kerala, in southern India.

He has since won several awards during his journey, including a career excellence award in 2024 and a youngest executive chef of the year award in 2022.

He also appeared as a trainer on Celebrity MasterChef in 2017.

His aim is to offer fine dining Indian food to people in the local area, rather than requiring them to travel elsewhere.

“It has to be a place for youngsters, for families, for companies, for couples," he said previously.

“I’ve got space for everyone – if an older couple want to enjoy a tea and coffee then we have space for them, if a young couple need a grab and go then we have space for them and if a couple with young children need dinner then we have space for them.

“Long term – I want to see a Michelin Star blinging on me."

The restaurant has been meticulously designed and contains various areas including a corporate dining lounge, a visiting lounge and "chef's table".

The restaurant's website says: "Chef Jomon and our culinary team are putting the final touches on our dining halls, spice cellar, and kitchen at 197–201 High Street in Hornchurch.

"Our doors are not open yet, but table reservations will go live shortly ahead of our official opening date."
