Armed police descended on a Hornchurch street following reports of shots being fired.

Police were alerted to the reports of gunshots in vicinity of Maygreen Crescent at around 7.05pm yesterday (October 15).

Specialist firearms officers and a police dog unit were deployed to the scene and carried out a thorough search of the area.

However, police said they found no evidence that any shots had been fired.

No injuries were reported to officers.

The Met confirmed that no investigation has been launched at this stage, although this could change if new information comes to light.

A spokesperson advised that reports of this nature are taken "incredibly serious" by the Met.
