New images have offered a sneak peek inside a garden centre's "bigger and better" Christmas department before it opens this weekend.

Alton Garden Centre on the A127 in Wickford will open its 2026 Christmas department on Saturday, October 17.

Family Card members will get 15 per cent off Christmas items during the opening weekend.

The centre, described as Essex’s largest garden centre, has released images of its new Christmas stock and displays ahead of opening weekend.

A spokesman for the centre said: “Our team have been working hard with Santa's elves to get our Christmas department ready for this weekend’s celebrations.

“Are you planning on joining us this weekend? Don’t miss out on these huge Family Card Christmas savings.

“Be one of the first to see our brand-new ranges of Christmas stock for 2026.”

The first 50 customers through the doors during opening weekend will receive a “magic token”.

The token can be exchanged for a free bauble worth up to £3.99 during the opening weekend.

Free festive treats will be available throughout Saturday, while a ribbon-cutting ceremony is due to take place at 9am.

Customers can join the Family Card scheme by picking up a card in-store and registering online, unlocking the 15 per cent discount and other rewards.

British Garden Centres says this year’s line-up is “bigger and better than ever”, with lights, decorations and home accessories to help customers create Christmas memories without breaking the bank.

Libby Stubbs, events manager at British Garden Centres, said: “Christmas at British Garden Centres is about so much more than decorations; it’s about bringing people together and making the season the best experience for everyone.

“Alongside our expanded Fern Christmas range and a fantastic selection of gifts for all ages, we’re proud to host festive events that families can enjoy year after year.

"Whether you’re shopping for the perfect present, finding inspiration for your home, or making memories, there’s something special for everyone."

The opening weekend will also raise funds for Greenfingers Charity through a ticketed VIP shopping night on Friday, October 15, supporting children and families in hospices across the UK.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Alton and raise some vital funds for Greenfingers Charity as the festive period kicks off,” Libby added.

Founded in 1971, the centre was run by Derek Bunker and his family for more than five decades before British Garden Centres took ownership.
