A homeowner in Romford has been ordered to bulldoze their "unattractive and alien" side extension after it was built "without planning permission".

The owners and occupiers of 26 Kenway have been hit with an enforcement notice from Havering Council after allegedly breaching planning regulations.

The notice states that a single-storey extension has been built at the site of the property "without planning permission" at some point in the last 10 years.

This extension has been deemed by the council to have a detrimental impact on the home and surrounding street due to its "poor design".

The notice, published on September 29, said: "The single storey side extension, by reason of its poor design and incongruous materials used, forms an unattractive and alien development to the detriment of the visual amenity of the host property and the local streetscene.

"The council does not consider that planning permission should be granted because planning conditions attached to any consent would not overcome these problems."

The homeowner has therefore been ordered to demolish the extension and remove any panelling facing Norman Close.

Any rubbish, debris or other materials accumulated as a result of the demolition must also be removed.

This must be carried out by December 27, unless an appeal is lodged before October 27.

Failure to comply with an enforcement notice can result in prosecution or remedial action by the council.
