A primary school in Harold Hill has marked 11 years since opening with a celebration of culture, community, and achievement.
Drapers’ Maylands Primary School, which welcomed its first pupils in September 2015, combined its annual Foundation Day and Unity Day on Friday, September 18, bringing together pupils, families, and staff for a day of reflection and festivity.
The event began with a Foundation Day assembly led by principal Trudy Spillane, where pupils received awards in areas including writing, mathematics, effort, and curiosity, as well as achievements in forest school, PE, music, and art.
The assembly also included the appointment of the school’s head ambassador, deputy head ambassadors, and prefects.

This year, the school combined Foundation Day with Unity Day, which celebrates the diverse cultures and traditions within the Maylands community.
Families were invited to wear traditional clothing and share foods from their cultures, while music from around the world—chosen by families—played throughout the school grounds.
The afternoon included inflatables, food, and activities.
Another part of the day was the unveiling of a new water feature in the school’s Quiet Garden.
The feature was envisioned by Ms Spillane and brought to life by the school’s artist in residence Leninger Sarkis over the past year.
It now offers a place of reflection and tranquillity for pupils and staff.
There was also the return of former pupils, who reconnected with staff and joined in the celebrations.
A spokesperson for the school said: "The afternoon was a wonderful reminder of the strong relationships between the school, its families and the wider community, and a fitting way to celebrate 11 years of Drapers’ Maylands Primary School."
