Four new routes are taking off next month from an Essex airport.

Budget airline easyJet’s first flight from Southend to Munich took off on Saturday, expanding the airline’s presence at the airport with a direct connection to the Bavarian capital.

Jude Winstanley, chief executive of London Southend Airport, said: "We're delighted to see the first easyJet flight to Munich take off from London Southend.

"Munich is a fantastic addition to our growing route network and opens up a wealth of opportunities for passengers, whether travelling for leisure or business."

The service is part of easyJet’s expanding network from Southend and will operate up to three times a week.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: "We are really pleased to be launching our first flights between London Southend and Munich, providing customers across Essex and the South East with a direct connection to one of Germany's most vibrant and popular cities.

"Whether customers are travelling to visit festive Christmas markets, a business trip or to explore the wider Bavarian region, Munich offers something for everyone.

"We are delighted to continue expanding the choice available from London Southend and to provide great value fares and convenient travel options for our customers."

Following the launch of the Munich connection, four more easyJet routes are taking off from Southend next month, including Budapest, Lanzarote, Edinburgh, and Belfast.

Flights to Edinburgh will operate on Thursdays and Sundays starting October 29, while Belfast services will run on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays from October 25.

Two weekly flights to Lanzarote’s Arrecife Airport will depart on Wednesdays and Fridays from October, though the exact launch date has not yet been confirmed.
