Keswick Avenue car park Hornchurch new homes in photos

The development, located in Keswick Avenue, is one of four sites in Romford and Hornchurch where new housing is planned or currently being built.

Construction works began in March, with the digging of trenches for foundations, following the closure of the car park in January.

Drone images taken by photographer Peter Barrett today (August 25) show the homes progressing steadily.

They are arranged in a diagonal row, with scaffolding still in place and further height seemingly added to each since the last drone images at the start of August.

Wooden panelling appears nearly finished on the upper floors, while building materials are still visible at the rear of the properties.

The homes are being built by Mercury Land Holdings Ltd, a company wholly owned by Havering Council.

In its planning application, the company said it would constitute a "more sustainable" use of the brownfield site, which is "surplus" to the council’s needs, while also meeting the demand for "much-needed" housing.

The scheme will deliver six three-bedroom houses, each with a private, south-facing garden and a dedicated parking space.

Extra cycling and waste storage facilities are also included in the plans.

Planning permission for the homes was granted in August 2024, following the submission of plans in April 2024.

The Keswick Avenue project is part of a wider plan to build on underused car parks across the borough.

Other sites include Dorrington Gardens, Angel Way, and Como Street.

Foundation work is currently underway for the Dorrington Gardens homes, while the Angel Way scheme was approved at a strategic planning committee meeting in March.

The Como Street proposals are yet to be decided.
