A flag-raising ceremony has brought together generations in a celebration of unity, civic pride and community spirit.
The event, held in Romford and organised by the Vishv Umiya Foundation (VUF) UK under the leadership of chairman Rashesh Patel, included children, senior citizens and volunteers.
Dilip Patel, cllr and former Mayor of Havering, led the ceremony, and singer Ekta Rana performed the national anthem.

Rashesh Patel, chairman of VUF UK’s vision and encouraged residents to support the organisation’s future plans, saying: "We are delighted to see so many members of our local community come together.
"Events like this create meaningful connections between generations and celebrate the positive spirit of our community."
He said that VUF UK will continue to develop programmes that promote engagement and togetherness. The organisation is currently constructing the world’s tallest temple dedicated to Goddess Umiya in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The 504-foot structure is expected to be completed by December 2027. VUF also extended thanks to Kuljit Kaur, Dr Yash Gupta, Rajan Vekaria, Harshil Prajapati, Hardik Ramani and Seema Patel for their support.
