A girls' school in Romford is celebrating a "significant improvement" on last year's GCSE results.

Almost four in five GCSE entries at The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls secured grades 9 to 4 on results day today (August 20).

The school said 79 per cent of all exam entries earned grades 9 to 4, while 55.7pc of pupils achieved grade 5s or above in both English and maths.

Results showed 73pc achieved grade 4s or above in both subjects.

A spokesperson from the school said these results represent a "significant improvement" on last year and are a "fantastic achievement" for not only the students but the whole Frances Bardsley community.

They said: "Today, however, is about much more than statistics.

"Behind every grade is a story of hard work, perseverance and determination, and we are incredibly proud of everything our Year 11 students have achieved."

Headteacher Emilie Darabasz and executive headteacher David Turrell thanked the school's "exceptional staff" and the families of the students for providing "encouragement and support" along the way.

They added: "We are very excited to welcome back students to our sixth form but equally proud of those heading to other schools, colleges, apprenticeships and other new opportunities, and we wish every one of them enormous success for the future.

"Congratulations Class of 2026!”
