The headteacher of an Upminster school said she is "immensely proud" of pupils who opened their GCSE results today including one who achieved straight grade nines.

Pupils at The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School have this morning (August 20) achieved 649 GCSE grades from 7 to 9 - the equivalent of A and A* grades.

Grades at 7 to 9 made up 33 per cent of all entries across the year group.

In English, 94pc of grades were at grade 4 or above, while 85pc were at grade 5 or above.

In maths, 90pc of grades sat at grade 4 or above.

Timothy Foo achieved grade 9s in all 10 of his subjects, and said: "I am so happy, this is the best I could have done.

"I'm hoping to study medicine in the future and these results are a huge step towards this dream.

"I would like to thank all of the teachers for their support throughout."

The school said the results reflected the work of students and staff during the pupils’ time at the school.

Headteacher Sue Hay said: “We are immensely proud of our Year 11 students, who have shown incredible dedication and determination throughout their studies.

"While we celebrate these fantastic academic achievements today, Coopers' Coborn has always been so much more than an 'exam factory.'

"Guided by our motto, 'Love as Brethren,' we foster a supportive culture where personal development sits right at the heart of school life."

Ms Hay said pupils here grow into "polite, respectful and well-rounded young adults".

She added: "We congratulate every single student and wish them well as they prepare to take their next steps - whether continuing into our sixth form or pursuing exciting new opportunities elsewhere.”

Mark Duncan, deputy headteacher, said the results are a testament to the commitment of both pupils and staff here.

"Seeing our students flourish across all areas of school life and exceed their potential is the greatest reward for any educator," he added.
