Pettits Lane Romford burst water pipe works continue

Temporary traffic lights are expected to remain in place until early next week along a busy road in Romford after a water pipe burst.

Essex & Suffolk Water has installed three-way traffic lights along Pettits Lane after a water main burst close to its junction with Eastern Avenue East on Saturday (August 15).

While the pipe repair was completed the same day, reinstatement work on the road is continuing this week.

An Essex & Suffolk spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a burst water pipe on Pettits Lane in Romford on Saturday.

"Our teams attended and completed the repair that day, restoring water supplies to our customers.

"Work to get the road back to normal is now ongoing.

"As part of this, we need to lay concrete beneath the road surface which will take time to fully set before the final reinstatement can be completed.

"Three-way traffic lights will remain in place while this work is carried out, which we expect to be complete by early next week.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience and would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience."

Roadworks platform Causeway one.network states that the works are expected to be completed by August 25, with delays "likely" for the duration.

Other works, carried out by Havering Council, are also continuing along Pettits Lane and are set for completion on August 24.

These have resulted in a lane closure, according to Causeway one.network.

It follows a number of other burst water pipes in Havering this summer, including in Lower Bedfords Road, Heaton Avenue, Colchester Road and Ardleigh Green Road.

During hot weather, the ground can dry out and shift, putting additional pressure on pipework and in some cases causing pipes to crack.
