Commuters who travel on Greater Anglia services have been asked NOT to travel until further notice following a train derailment.

The plea has been issued to those who make journeys between Shenfield and Southend Victoria following the incident at Wickford rail station this afternoon (August 14).

British Transport Police officers are present at the scene of the ongoing incident, working alongside fire and paramedic colleagues.

The derailed train was reported at around 2.12pm, with no current reports of injuries.

It is understood the train has remained in an upright position after leaving the tracks.

National Rail has advised that affected passengers can use their tickets across alternative travel routes today, and tickets will remain valid tomorrow (August 15).

Tickets are being accepted at no extra cost on:

  • c2c services between London Liverpool Street, London Fenchurch Street, West Ham, and Southend Central

Tickets are also being accepted on certain London Underground routes.

These include:

  • Circle line between London Liverpool Street and Tower Hill (for London Fenchurch Street)
  • Jubilee line between Stratford (London) and West Ham
  • Liberty line between Romford and Upminster, for c2c connections
