A person has died after being hit by a train at Chadwell Heath station.

Emergency services were called to the station at 8.02pm yesterday (August 13) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

At the time, there was no service between Whitechapel and Shenfield on the Elizabeth line due to the incident.

Severe delays then affected the line between Paddington and Heathrow Airport and Reading due to a faulty train at Hanwell.

People on the Elizabeth line reported that it took "over two hours" to get back from Kings Cross due to trains being at a standstill.

According to passengers, this included the air conditioning not working despite that day being the UK’s hottest day of the year so far.
