Six arrests have been made and a stolen vehicle has been recovered after a two-day operation cracking down on crime in Romford.

Officers took part in Operation Collards - an initiative aimed at targeting crime and anti-social behaviour - on Monday (August 10) and Tuesday (August 11).

It involved a total of 39 stop and searches, 12 of which were deemed positive.

Police arrested six people for grievous bodily harm, breach of police bail, handling stolen goods and disqualified driving.

Three wanted offenders were also arrested, the Metropolitan Police said.

A stolen vehicle with cloned registration plates was also recovered and a Penalty Notice for disorderly conduct was handed out.

Weapon sweeps were conducted around Central Park and Bosworth Field in Harold Hill.

Police Sergeant Lewis, who helped to organise the operation, said: “This has been a valuable learning experience for these new officers who are in their first three weeks of the course.

“They have benefited from working with other experienced officers from different units to tackle the crimes and offenders that affect the community.

“The feedback from members of the public overall was very positive.”
