A "number of" businesses are in discussions with a shopping centre in Romford about taking over a former TGI Fridays.
Construction works were spotted at the unit - which has been empty for nearly two years - last Thursday (August 6), with barriers now installed around it.
The Brewery shopping centre, where the former restaurant is located, has since confirmed that discussions are "ongoing" with several brands about the unit.
A Brewery spokesperson told the Recorder: "We're pleased to confirm that discussions are ongoing with a number of prospective brands regarding the vacant unit.
"While we aren't in a position to comment further at this stage due to commercial confidentiality, we're excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to sharing more information as soon as we are able.
"We'll provide updates in due course."
The doors to the unit were open when works were first seen last week, with a scaffolding platform and materials visible outside, but tarpaulin has since been installed around the barriers.
TGI Fridays Romford shut nearly two years ago after the company fell into administration in September 2024 and was not saved, despite a rescue deal.
The unit has remained vacant ever since.
