Building works have been spotted at a former TGI Fridays branch in Romford - nearly two years after its closure.

Barriers have been installed around the empty unit at The Brewery shopping centre, with construction workers seen at the site on Thursday (August 6).

The doors to the former restaurant were open, and building materials and a cone were visible inside.

TGI Fridays Romford, at Unit 9 of The Brewery, shut nearly two years ago after the company fell into administration on September 18, 2024.

Although a deal was later struck in October to save 51 restaurants from closure, the Romford branch was not rescued.

A spokesperson for The Brewery said at the time: "While we are saddened to see them go, we understand their decision and send our best wishes to their team and management.

"TGI Fridays has been a valued part of our retail and dining community, and we thank them for the years of service they have provided to our visitors."

The unit has remained vacant ever since, with no known plans yet for its replacement.

The Recorder has contacted The Brewery for further information.
