Around 60 firefighters have tackled another major grass fire in Rainham this afternoon following a turbulent week of wildfires.
Crews were called to a grass fire near Berwick Pond Road about 3.25pm today (July 30), where the blaze spread over approximately six hectares.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within two hours and used water backpacks and wildfire beaters to tackle remaining flames.
This fire follows a similar blaze near South End Road in Hornchurch, which required eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters.
It was declared under control by 3.22pm.
The London Fire Brigade's Terrain Support Vehicle was sent to the scene at Berwick Pond, providing off-road capability and additional firefighting equipment.
The vehicle carries approximately 475 litres of water and misting lance technology, which allows firefighters to pump water and drive, tackling grass fires more quickly and safely.
Wildfire beaters are used to beat the flames, depriving them of oxygen and cooling down the area.

The Brigade's Drone Team was also deployed, giving the Incident Commander an aerial view of the fire.
The fire was reported to the Brigade's Control Officers at 3.25pm, and fire crews from Addington, Enfield, Bexley, and other nearby stations were mobilised.
The fire was declared under control by 5.12pm.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
