Ofsted switched up how it judges schools last year, so let's take a look at what this has meant for secondary schools in Havering so far.

Only four secondary schools in the borough have been inspected under the new Ofsted framework since it was introduced in November 2025.

As well as a new five-point grading scale and more detailed report cards to replace the previous single-word judgements, the new framework also includes a new "inclusion" evaluation area and a new "exceptional" grade.

No secondary schools in Havering have so far received this grade, which identifies the very best provision in the country, but all have been judged as demonstrating a "strong standard" or "expected standard" in every evaluation area.

A "strong standard" means leaders are working above the standard expected of them, whereas an "expected standard" means the school is fulfilling the standard set out in statutory and non‑statutory legislation.

Here is a breakdown of all four reports under the new framework.

The Campion School, Hornchurch

The Campion School was praised by Ofsted for its pupils' achievement and attendance and behaviour - found to be consistently above the national average - with inspectors rating the school as reaching a "strong standard" in both those areas.

The inspection on April 28 also found the school to be meeting the "expected standard" in all other areas: curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and wellbeing, and post-16 provision.

St Edward’s Church of England Academy also secured two "strong standard" grades after its inspection on May 6, this time for attendance and behaviour and personal development and wellbeing.

Like The Campion School, the rest of the evaluation areas met the "expected standard", but Ofsted praised the academy in particular for its "caring" and "diverse" community.

The Cooper’s Company and Coborn School was commended by Ofsted after its inspection on 12 May, during which it was deemed to be working at a "strong standard" in five areas.

Only inclusion and leadership and governance were meeting the grade below, with the report highlighting above-average GCSE and A-level results, excellent careers education, respectful behaviour, and strong preparation for adulthood.

Koru Independent AP Academy, Harold Hill

Koru Independent AP Academy has had the most successful Ofsted report so far, with all assessment areas graded as reaching a "strong standard".

At the inspection on May 12, the education watchdog found the independent school to have a "carefully designed" curriculum and systems to support the needs of pupils, who often arrive at with "serious attendance difficulties".
