The latest drone photos of Gallows Corner have been released as water works at the site take a "major step forward".

Aerial photos of the junction, taken on Monday (July 27), have captured the ongoing works by Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW), with several pipes still exposed in excavation pits dotted along the A127 and A12.

Last week, a huge crane was spotted next to a deep pit close to the roundabout, which was supporting the installation of an S-bend shaped pipe.

The crane has now been removed from the site and the section is being backfilled ready for pressure testing, ESW said.

Cones and barriers remain in place around the roundabout and across the new flyover as part of Transport for London (TfL) traffic management measures, while key parts of the junction are still closed.

The photos follow an update from ESW on the Gallows Corner project, announcing that a central section of pipework has "successfully passed the pressure test".

ESW called this a "significant milestone" for the scheme, which has involved "complex" repair works.

In the update published on Friday (July 24), ESW said: "This week, the central section successfully passed the pressure test.

"This represents a significant milestone in the programme, marking a major step forward on one of the most complex and critical elements of the repair works.

"This is the section where our specialist teams have been working inside the pipe to complete the work.

"Our team is continuing to work on the syphon section (a bend within the new water main around some existing infrastructure) under the sewer pipework near Eastern Avenue.

"The new part that was being manufactured off-site is planned to be installed next week.

"We continue to work closely with TfL and remain focused on completing the remaining works as quickly and safely as possible, to allow them to work towards restoring full access to the road network and protecting vital water supplies."

Gallows Corner has been affected by roadworks for more than a year, with the junction only partially reopening in May due to the continuing water works.

The water main replacement being carried out by ESW was initially intended to coincide with TfL’s flyover replacement works in an effort to "minimise disruption".

TfL recently confirmed that the water company is expected to complete its works and hand the site back to them by the end of August.

Final resurfacing works will then need to be completed before the road network can be fully reopened.

Both TfL and ESW have apologised for the ongoing disruption.
