Upminster 41 Club members celebrated a bumper year of fundraising with a special gala evening, where they shared thousands of pounds with local charities.
The money was collected in December through the club’s joint Christmas float with Havering Rotary, which toured the streets of Upminster and Cranham.
In total, more than £14,000 was raised.
At the June gala, Upminster 41 Club’s share was presented to four local charities, each receiving £750: First Step, Little Havens Hospice, Peaceful Place in Basildon, and St Francis Hospice.
Members also saluted long-standing club member Bob Smith, who recently completed his 29th London Marathon.
Running alongside his granddaughter Amelia, he raised more than £4,500 for the charity SENSE.
A raffle on the night brought in a further £170 for the same cause.
Charlotte Curran, CEO of charity Peaceful Place, which supports people living with dementia and their carers, wrote to thank the club for its donation, describing the support as 'incredibly generous' and vital for a small, independent charity without a dedicated fundraising team.
She said every pound would help provide sport, music, creativity and friendship for local families.
Upminster 41 Club paid tribute to all involved, with thanks to Havering Rotary, residents who donated on the Christmas float route, and guests who helped make the gala evening a success.
