A bar in Hornchurch is set to open an over-21s nightclub upstairs and a "grand opening" date has been revealed.

Shelly V's in High Street opened its doors on April 3 in place of the former Rising Sun pub which had sat vacant since June 2023.

The current venue has a main "bar and pub" area on the ground floor, complete with around 12 TVs and outdoor screens.

It offers "a bit of everything" according to owner Michelle 'Shelly' Vickers, and is set to start serving Sunday roasts later this month.

Work is ongoing to open a new nightclub for people aged 21 and over on the first floor - above the pub area.

The nightclub will open officially on July 31, for its "grand opening".

It has a licence to open until 3am.

Shelly said: “We did expect it to be sooner but there was more work to be done than we thought so it’s taken longer.

“I’m hoping that when the nightclub opens on July 31 it will be really busy."

Shelly also owns Shelly's Bar and Nightclub - a separate venue in Station Lane which allows guests aged 18 and over.

Since opening Shelly V's, Shelly has been offering a deal to some customers who visit the pub - giving them a stamp which sees them enter the nightclub in Station Lane for free before 12.30am that night.

Previously, she told the Recorder that business has been "pretty good" but not without struggles.

She said weekday evenings "could be better" but believes the addition of the nightclub will help with income.

“Most of the weekends have been pretty solid since we opened and we’ve had no trouble which is great – it’s always a bonus," she said.

“I’ve been in Hornchurch for a long time and I’ve had bars all around here.

"We're really looking forward to getting the club open."
