Part of a motor garage in Rainham has been destroyed in a fire this morning.
A major response by the London Fire Brigade was seen at the corner of New Road and Lower Mardyke Road at around 7.34am (April 24).
Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a fire after the control room received first of seven calls reporting the blaze.
At the scene, a motor garage with homes above was found to be alight.
The electric intake room on the ground floor of the premises was destroyed, with four people having managed to exit the building before the arrival of the emergency services.
Firefighters extinguished the flames by 9.25am.
Six cylinders were removed from the property as a precaution and were cooled to an ambient temperature as they can be known to explode when exposed to high temperatures.
No injuries have been reported, with an investigation underway to establish the cause of the fire.
