A pub in Noak Hill has undergone a "welcome refresh" ahead of a "busy" summer season.

The Deers Rest has been given a makeover, including a fresh lick of paint outside, new carpets and upgraded lighting throughout the pub.

The boozer in Noak Hill Road remained open during the refurbishment, which aims to bring a "more contemporary feel" for customers ahead of the summer.

A spokesperson for The Deers Rest said: "We’re delighted to have given the pub a welcome refresh while reinforcing its commitment to providing a warm, high-quality community space.

"The work includes refreshed exterior paintwork, new carpets, updated décor and improved lighting throughout the pub, delivering a more contemporary feel while maintaining the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere our guests know and love.

"We hope these works will help make every visit even more enjoyable, and we look forward to welcoming both new and returning faces to The Deers Rest throughout the summer."

The pub added that the team is "excited to head into a busy summer season", with activities planned including quiz nights and paint and sip sessions, as well as a new weekend breakfast offer.

The Deers Rest is one of the oldest pubs in Havering, and has been known by a number of names since it was established in the 17th century.

Live bears were kept in cages in the beer garden as recently as the 1960s and 70s, and were reportedly treated to brown ale and crisps after the customers had gone home.
