A new nursing and retirement home in Hornchurch has moved one step closer to opening.

Signature at Hornchurch, in Nelmes Way, has applied to supply alcohol and show films 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The application comes ahead of the home's expected opening in June, at a site which was once the car park of New City College's Ardleigh Green campus.

Both a retirement and assisted-living facility, the home is set to have 90 apartments, some of which will be specialised for those living with dementia.

In a recent post on Facebook, Signature at Hornchurch said there has been "exciting progress" so far at the site.

The post said: "Colleagues from Signature, alongside our design team, recently came together for a full walkthrough of the home - from stunning communal spaces to the back of house areas - and everything is coming together beautifully.

"We’re right on track and it’s all looking fantastic… we can’t wait to welcome you this June!"

Signature already has a number of other homes across the south of England, including in Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Surrey.

The home's premises licence application is open to feedback until May 6.
