A major fire has broken out at a commercial site, sending smoke across the area and causing long delays in Barking.
The fire was on Ripple Road today (April 7) and spread through the roof of the building, several outbuildings and a neighbouring residential property.
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters were sent to the scene.
A 32-metre turntable ladder was also deployed.
The response included crews from stations in Barking, East Ham, Ilford, and surrounding areas.
No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters worked to remove several gas cylinders from the site, cooling them to prevent explosions.
The incident led to severe traffic disruption throughout the area, with the A13 Ripple Road remaining closed westbound at the junction of Choats Manor Way.
Traffic was heavily affected in both directions and drivers were urged to find alternative routes.
The fire was brought under control by 4.32pm, but crews are expected to remain at the site for several hours to fully extinguish the fire and make the area safe.
The London Fire Brigade advised nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed because of the smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
More than 15 emergency calls were made reporting the fire.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
