This "charming" Essex village sits at the mouth of a river and has acres of sprawling marshlands which were featured on an ITV drama series.
Tollesbury is a village and civil parish sitting at the mouth of the River Blackwater in the Maldon district of Essex.
It is described as a "charming village that offers everything you need" by Essex estate agents Fenn Wright and "a great place for walkers and nature lovers" by Visit Essex.
The parish of Tollesbury has marshland, walking routes and a marina and has mostly been farmed to grow crops for thousands of years.
During the later part of 19th century, Tollesbury was home to an oyster fishing industry and during the early part of the 20th century, many local jobs were involved in the construction of racing yachts, according to Visit Essex.
The village also once had a pier, aptly named Tollesbury Pier.
The pier was taken over by the War Department during the Second World War and was blown up in 1940 as an anti-invasion precaution.
Tollesbury's marshlands were captured in drone footage and used in the opening shots of the ITV drama series Liar which ran from 2017-2020.
The parish is home to a pub - The King's Head in High Street - and a bistro and bar - The Harbour View in Woodrolfe Park - which claims to serve "some of the freshest and most exquisite seafood that Essex has to offer".
The restaurant is nestled within Tollesbury Marina and "offers a unique dining experience where every plate is a tribute to the bounty of the ocean".
It has a 4.2 out of five star average rating on Google whilst The King's Head has a 4.6 out of five star average Google score.
Tollesbury Marina itself has "some of the best views a place can offer" according to its website.
It says: "Tollesbury Marina is an ideal place to moor up and spend a few days relaxing and losing yourself in the beauty of the surrounding area.
"There are walks around a nature reserve about 5 minutes away and (more importantly) a town close by to restock on those vital supplies for dark and stormies."
The nature reserve in question is the 242 hectare Tollesbury Wick Nature Reserve which "boasts a wonderful diversity of species" according to Essex Wildlife Trust.
This diversity includes clouded yellow butterflies, brent geese and marsh harriers.
Flocks of sheep and herds of cattle help to manage the freshwater grazing marsh "in the most sustainable way possible" and the rough pastures provide a habitat for small mammals such as voles and shrews.
The grassland also consists of "many bumps and lumps" which are actually hills made by yellow meadow ants.
According to Rightmove, house prices in Tollesbury had an overall average price of £334,077 over the last year.
The majority of properties sold in the parish during the last year were semi-detached properties which sold for an average price of £306,333.
Detached properties sold for £500,000 on average whilst terraced properties fetched £271,667.
Overall, according to Rightmove's data, the historical sold prices in Tollesbury over the last year were 15 per cent down on the previous year and 4pc down on the 2021 peak of £346,800.
