A Romford shopping centre is hosting a special exhibition with artwork from schoolchildren.

Pupils from schools across Havering have been recognised for their efforts in a Mother’s Day portrait competition, with their winning pieces now on display at Daniel’s View gallery in The Mercury Shopping Centre.

The artwork forms part of The Women Who Made Us exhibition celebrating mothers, grandmothers, carers and other influential women.

Natalie Bays, centre manager at The Mercury, said: "We’re delighted with the response we received. We have all been overwhelmed by the quality of the artworks."

Hundreds of entries were submitted by pupils from schools across the borough, with Scargill Infant School in Rainham named as the overall winner and receiving a £100 cash prize.

The portraits were judged by artists Nigel Hubbard, Geo Jam, and Hannah Davis.
