A mother and daughter duo are celebrating a "fantastic" first year of business after they opened a salon in Collier Row this time last year.
Rebecca Pells and her daughter Shannon Wilderspin opened the doors to The Beauty of Aesthetics clinic in Hog Hill Road on March 8, 2025.
The duo offer aesthetics, hairdressing, nail services and more as well as providing training courses for aspiring aestheticians.
“The first year has actually been fantastic," Rebecca, commonly known as Becky, told the Recorder.
"It's been a really good experience overall.
“We were already lucky enough to have a good client base anyway, but word of mouth always helps.
“Everybody in Collier Row that comes to us are all amazing people - I think that we've built up a great rapport with people here."
The business originally began in Becky's home in March 2024 before they moved their operations into a room inside Essex Glow tanning salon in Whitchurch Road, Harold Hill.
With business expanding and the duo wanting to offer a greater range of services, Becky deemed the time right to open up their first physical venue in March last year.
Becky recounted a few "private and personal issues" throughout the first year but said that running the shop and growing their service range has been "pretty plain sailing".
She said: “We have Jess who does the nails, we have Sophie who does hair, then we have Sonia who does the machinery such as the skin rejuvenation and we've got Kelly that does the SPMU (semi-permanent makeup) on top of myself and Shannon, who do the training and the aesthetics.
“We are pretty much now an all-inclusive one stop shop - we've grown incredibly."
Becky acknowledged that it is increasingly difficult for businesses to survive in the current economic climate but claimed herself and Shannon have been "incredibly lucky" that they have seen consistent custom in their debut year.
She said: “We expected that we would get more walk-in trade to be honest.
“However, it hasn't overly impacted us because we offer so many different things and so many people, even when they're on a tight budget, are still able to come to us because of the deals that we offer on certain days.
"We offer almost everything - we truly are a one stop shop."
Becky and Shannon have continued offering training courses at the salon and Becky is undergoing Ofqual regulated training at a college in order to offer apprenticeships at the salon in the future.
She said her long term plans for the clinic are to turn the premises into an Ofqual regulated training centre as well as continuing to offer their range of beauty services.
