A man in his 80s has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Brentwood.

Essex Police were called to Warley Hill shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (March 3) with reports of an incident.

Officers were dispatched to the scene and closed the road.

A man, aged in his 80s, was found injured and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

There have been no arrests at this stage.

Warley Hill reopened to traffic hours later at around 6.35pm.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "We were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Warley Hill, Brentwood, at 4.35pm on Tuesday 3 March.

"The road was closed whilst emergency services attended.

"A man aged in his 80s was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he remains.

"No arrests have been made and our enquiries are continuing."
