Which east London borough had the most crime in February 2026?

Reported crime across east London dropped by 4.59 per cent from 13,064 incidents in January to 12,464 in February.

Of the six boroughs in east London, only one saw an increase in crime from January to February whilst the five others saw decreases.

As was the case in January, Newham registered the highest number of reported crimes in February - 3,155.

This was down by 6.79pc from the 3,385 reports made in the previous month.

Theft was the most common crime type in Newham with 963 cases, followed by violence against the person with 881 cases and vehicle offences with 392 cases.

Each of these totals were lower than in January.

Tower Hamlets was the only borough to see a higher total of reported crime in February than in January after a 1.22pc rise from 2,688 reports to 2,721.

Theft was the most recurring crime in Tower Hamlets with 782 reports made, followed closely by violence against the person with 780 reports.

Vehicle offences was the third most common with 260 reports made.

All three crime types saw higher totals in February than in the preceding month.

However, the frequency of crimes such as robbery and burglary dropped.

Redbridge was next in the February ranking with 1,855 crimes reported - a 7.48pc drop from January's total of 2,005.

Violence against the person was the most reported crime in Redbridge with 652 reports made in February - down slightly from the 665 reports made in January.

Theft (476 reports) and vehicle offences (182) were the next most common crime types in February.

Theft rates were up from 458 reports in January whilst vehicle offences were down from 244 reports in January.

According to the data, Waltham Forest saw 1,796 criminal reports made in February which was down by 6.84pc from the 1,919 reports made in January.

The February total was spearheaded by 539 reports of violence against the person, followed by 454 accounts of theft and 185 accounts of vehicle offences.

Violence against the person and vehicle offences were up marginally from 536 and 181 reports made in January whilst theft dropped substantially from 528 reports.

Havering and Barking and Dagenham switched places from the January ranking seeing Barking and Dagenham named as the east London borough with the least amount of reported crime in February (1,447 reports).

Havering's total dropped from 1,499 reports in January to 1,490 reports in the following month.

A total of 473 of these reports were made for violence against the person whilst 322 were made for theft and 163 for vehicle offences.

Violence against the person and vehicle offences were both down from January whilst theft reports rose by 8.4pc.

Other crime types such as sexual offences, possession of weapons and robbery were down marginally in Havering too.

Barking and Dagenham's total dropped by 7.71pc from 1,568 reports made in January.

Violence against the person was the most common offence in the borough last month with 548 reports made, followed by 248 reports of theft and 158 accounts of vehicle offences - each of these totals were lower than they were in January.
