The opening of a children's indoor play village in Romford has been delayed due to "multiple leaks" causing part of the ceiling to "come down".
Kids Play Village has been anticipated to open inside The Liberty Shopping Centre since October last year, when plans were announced for a new addition to Laurie Walk.
An update from The Liberty's centre manager Tom Stobbart last month hinted towards the play space opening in spring, with the unit being "fitted out".
Earlier this month progress could be seen inside the unit, with structures coming together to bring to life the plans for small roleplay areas to encourage play.
Kids Play Village was due to open from units 15-18 Laurie Walk on March 2.
However, it appears the opening is up in the air after a "postponement" was announced on Facebook yesterday evening (February 25).
Jayde Piro, owner and director of Kids Play Village, took to the social media platform to update customers.
She wrote: "It is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce the postponement of my Romford shop opening.
"I was so incredibly close to opening the doors, and then this happened. Due to multiple leaks, part of the ceiling has unfortunately come down, meaning I am unable to open as planned.
"This situation is completely out of my control and it's honestly heartbreaking to share this news when I was just moments away from welcoming you all in.
"This setback is devastating but behind the scenes I am working day and night to deal with the damage, fix the ceiling safely, and get everything back on track as quickly as possible."
Those already with tickets will have these honoured on the future opening date, which has yet to be confirmed.
It is understood that the new opening date could be announced next week.
