A restaurant in Upminster scored top marks for its food hygiene during a revisit prompted by the discovery of "mouldy" pancakes.

The Station Pantry, in Station Road, has been told its food hygiene is now "very good" after a revisit from the Food Standards Agency today (February 25).

The follow-up inspection comes three months after several issues with the hygienic handling of food at the premises were found during a visit on November 29.

Mouldy pancakes, a mouldy ice machine and out-of-date nacho cheese were among the problems identified in the inspection report, leading the restaurant scoring a two out of five.

However, the management of food safety and cleanliness of the facilities were both deemed to be "good", even after the November inspection.

At the time of writing, The Food Standards Agency has not yet updated The Station Pantry's rating on its website, however the eatery has received a new rating sign.

The manager of The Station Pantry previously told the Recorder: "For the past eight years on the high street, The Station Pantry has consistently upheld the highest standards of health, safety and hygiene.

"We have always taken great pride in this.

"Following our recent inspection, we immediately requested a revisit.

"Thank you for your continued support and trust."

She declined to comment further on the new rating.
