A GP surgery in Romford has again proposed an extension to its practice after initial plans were refused last year.

Berrys, on behalf of North Street Medical Care, has submitted plans to convert an empty house at 1 Parkside Avenue into a GP surgery, including building an single-storey extension at the back.

This would act as an expansion to its existing practice in North Street, featuring four new appointment rooms, an extra office space and staff break-out and welfare facilities.

A proposed infill of the garage at 1 Parkside Avenue would make space for one of these appointment rooms - and a waiting area - while three parking spaces would be provided at the front of the property for staff use only.

The planning statement explained that the proposals aim to "increase the overall capacity" of the GP surgery, as well as benefitting the "existing staff at the wider surgery".

The statement said: "The proposed application will increase the provision of new and improved healthcare services within Havering.

"This will provide the community with accessible GP services, reducing wait times, relieve pressure off existing NHS facilities and increasing overall quality of life for residents.

"This would not involve an increase in staff at the surgery, rather it is to provide more and better accommodation and arrangements for existing staff to deliver an effective and efficient health service."

The application follows a refusal of similar proposals from North Street Medical Care in July 2025, due to concerns over "noise and disturbance" and parking.

However, agent Berrys believe that these concerns have been addressed in the new plans, including by reducing the length of the extension and the number of appointment rooms by two, and by changing the opening hours to exclude weekends and bank holidays.

In terms of parking, the application said visitors will be able park at the existing North Street site, or use the nearby Neyzan Restaurant car park under a "parking space lease agreement" that the GP has agreed with the eatery.

This would provide an extra 10 to 20 parking space for patients.
