A bus stop in Romford is set for an upgrade to improve the waiting area for passengers.

Havering Council, alongside Transport for London (TfL), has proposed installing a new bus shelter at the Heather Gardens bus stop outside 247 to 253 Pettits Lane North.

The shelter will include seating for those who find it difficult to stand for long periods, as well as a canopy to protect against adverse weather conditions.

A bin, lamp post and sign currently at the bus stop are proposed to be moved slightly to allow for the shelter to be installed.

The council has launched a consultation on the plans, with residents encouraged to share their views via the council website until March 6.

If the bus shelter is agreed, no works will take place until the Gallows Corner project is completed by TfL, the council confirmed.

The council said: "The purpose of this upgrade is to improve the waiting environment area for bus users by providing seating and shelter from adverse weather conditions.

"This improvement will be particularly beneficial for individuals who may find it difficult to stand for extended periods.

"We welcome any feedback on the proposals, which will be taken in to consideration before any formal decision is made regarding the implementation of the scheme."

The Heather Gardens bus stop serves both the 103 bus route, between Chase Cross and Rainham Station, and the 499 bus route, between Gallows Corner and Stansgate Road Shops.
