Keswick Avenue, Hornchurch car park - Work seen in drone photos

Keswick Avenue car park was closed on Monday (January 5), according to Havering Council.

The site will hold six new three-bed homes with off-street parking.

Planning permission was granted for the project in April 2024.

Drone pictures taken this morning (January 7) by Hornchurch based photographer Peter Barrett captured the first look at construction works.

Three rectangular holes have been dug with one being fenced off.

The entrances and exits to the car park have also been blocked with metal fencing.

Dorrington Gardens car park will shut in March for the development of 34 homes.

A Havering Council spokesperson confirmed alternative parking options in Hornchurch include Fentiman Way, Billet Lane and Appleton Way car parks, which will remain open, as well as the Sainsbury’s and Lidl’s Town Centre customer car parks. 

Fentiman Way and Appleton Way car parks are also included in the new parking pilot scheme, designed to "support local shops and businesses".

There is also parking at Billet Lane, though this is not part of the parking pilot scheme.

On December 30, Councillor Ray Morgon said: "Delivering new homes for local people is a top priority for our administration, and these developments in Hornchurch by Mercury Land Holdings are an important step toward meeting that need. 

“At the same time, we know how vital it is to support local traders and maintain a thriving town centre.

"That’s why we’re working closely with business owners and residents to ensure that the car parking pilot and these closures are managed in a way that keeps Hornchurch accessible and vibrant for everyone.”
