Motorists planning on using a main road through Hornchurch have been warned of likely delays as weeks of water works get underway.

North Street has been closed since 12pm yesterday (January 5) to allow for Thames Water to begin work.

Road users have been warned of "likely delays" along the main route until the completion of the works, which is expected in almost three weeks time.

According to the AA, Thames Water is undertaking water main works along North Street from Burnway to the A124 High Street.

Several bus services have been placed on diversion in light of the road closure, including routes 165, 256, 370, and 646.

Transport for London has confirmed that the affected services are on diversion in both directions, with stops from Queen's Theatre to Burnway will not be served in either direction.

The works in North Street are expected to complete by 11.59pm on January 25.
