A teenage engineering student has won at a national competition.
Seventeen-year-old Harvey McLaughlin from Hornchurch was awarded a gold medal at the WorldSkills UK Finals.
The Barking and Dagenham College student scooped the win in the additive manufacturing category at the competition, which was held last week.
Additive manufacturing, which is also known as 3D printing, is a process that allows for precise production.
During the competition, the engineering T-level student made a holder for a broom and a suction cup that can hold a 100-gram cylinder.
Harvey said: "Competing at the WorldSkills UK Finals has been an amazing experience.
"I’ve learned so much, faced tough challenges, and come away feeling proud of what I’ve achieved."
Cendan Cevizli, curriculum manager of engineering at Barking and Dagenham College, added: "Harvey’s achievement is a fantastic example of talent, dedication, and professionalism. He has represented Barking & Dagenham College with distinction, and we are thrilled to celebrate his success."
His proud family joined Harvey for a meeting with college principal Natalie Davison.
Terry, Harvey’s dad, said: "Amazing WorldSkills competition, fantastic ceremony culminating in Harvey winning the gold medal."
