A tea room in Essex has been named the UK's second best pet-friendly eatery in Tripadvisor's 2025 awards.

Its 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards have been announced, highlighting the top-rated restaurants and eateries across the world as well as the UK specifically.

The awards are determined on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews over the last 12 months and winners are among the top one per cent of restaurants listed on the site.

Amongst the categories is the 'pet-friendly' section where Mrs Salisbury's of Maldon ranked 11th best in the world and second in the UK.

Michael Bloomfield and Charlie Goss founded Mrs Salisbury's when they opened a tea room in High Street in Maldon in 2014.

According to Google Maps, this is just less than an hour's drive from Romford town centre.

Since then, three other branches have opened - a kiosk in Maldon Promenade Park and new tea rooms in Coggeshall and Wickham Bishops.

Michael said: “It’s amazing to be recognised in the Travellers' Choice Awards.

“We do have a lot of people come in with dogs.

“We get lots of lovely furry friends to see every day.

“We’re very big on customer service and making sure that every single person who steps through the door here leaves happy."

Mrs Salisbury's has a 4.9 out of five rating on Tripadvisor from more than 1,900 reviews and a 4.8 rating on Google from more than 800 reviews.

Michael added: “We always do our best to make it a great experience for everybody whether they’re just having a scone or the full afternoon tea experience.

“Our staff are so good at speaking to people, engaging and making sure that everything is good."

The business' website describes the Maldon branch as nestled inside a "quintessentially British alleyway".

The flagship store occupies the historic blue plaque dwelling of Church House, and boasts a "unique charm and whimsey over three floors matched by no others".

One of the most recent written reviews on Tripadvisor credits a waitress who was "extremely attentive and delivered an excellent customer experience".

The reviewer described the cream tea experience as "by far the best that we have ever had".

They added: "Would definitely recommend and we will be returning at a later date to try out some of the other offerings on the menu.

"For what we got the experience was great value for money."

There is also an outdoor seating area with 'igloos' for shelter which many dog owners praise.

Another punter wrote: "My husband and I go to this pretty quirky place at least twice a week and sit outside with our dog Barney.

"The dog gets as much attention as we do from the staff who are the best."
