DP9 Ltd has put forward proposals on behalf of applicant ATIK108SS to use the former Atik nightclub in South Street as a theatre for a period of three years.
Only the ground and first floor of the six-storey venue would be turned into a theatre, and the use would only be temporary while permanent redevelopment is in the works.
While the applicant is listed ATIK108SS, the planning statement reveals that Brookside Theatre has suggested using the site as an "extension" to their existing operations in Eastern Road.
According to the statement, the applicant approached a range of potential occupiers before the plans were drawn up and Brookside Theatre expressed an interest - although this has yet to be formalised.
The use of the space would include workshops, classes, rehearsals and occasional events, with operating hours ranging from 10am until 11pm depending on the activity.
It is also proposed for there to be three to 10 permanent staff at the premises, and up to 40 volunteers on event days.

The planning statement adds that the temporary use as a theatre would also help provide "additional security measures" against "trespassers and squatters", who have allegedly broken into Atik "numerous" times since it shut down.
Photos attached to the document show litter across the rooms and graffiti on the walls.
Pre-application discussions are underway to convert the former club into 290 studio flats, with a public consultation launched earlier this month.
The theatre use has been discussed with officers as part of this main redevelopment, who "fully support" the principle of a temporary change of use, according to the planning statement.
Havering Council are expected to make a decision on this application by November 19.
